The NW 25th Street Viaduct Project encompasses a new 1.4-mile elevated viaduct sky bridge along NW 25 Street beginning west of NW 82 Avenue, traveling over the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826), and ending at Miami International Airport’s Cargo Area. Lakes personnel provided structural engineering services for the east portion of the 1.4 miles of Viaduct. The project consists of a multilane continuous steel plate girders supported on steel cross bents and pile foundations. Lakes was responsible for the complete redesign of foundations from drilled shafts to prestressed concrete piles. Lakes personnel provided a complete bridge analysis which included generation of gravity and lateral loads. Gravity loads where generated utilizing AASHTO Dead and Live Load criteria. Lateral Loads consisted of wind loads and time dependent loadings such as temperature and longitudinal forces. Lakes developed 3-D models of the bridge with all loads superimposed to develop real time reactions for the successful redesign of the foundations.
