This Project entailed the replacement of an existing Bascule Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Lantana Florida with a new bascule bridge.  The bridge consists of 7 spans including one bascule span of 245’-0” (180’-0” c. to c. trunnions); overall bridge length of 785’-0“. The bridge will rise 21 feet at its highest point, almost twice the height of the existing bridge, and includes four ornamental 35-foot towers.  The wider bridge will allow for separation of pedestrians and traffic by a barrier and wider sidewalks so pedestrians and bicyclists can cross safely. 

Lakes Engineering, Inc. provided specialty engineering services as required to provide a preliminary and final balance calculations and counterweight shop drawings in accordance with technical specifications.  Our work consisted of the development of a counterweight Computation Tabulation Form using Excel that identifies all leaf component assemblies, weights, and center of gravity (CG).  Additionally, Lakes developed signed & sealed plans for the substitution of approach span Florida Bulb T beams with FIB 54 and erection of bascule leaf components from the approach spans.   The Project required Lakes to develop Construction Balance Plans for each bascule leaf and provide engineering services addressing non-conformances as required.
