Project consisted of the design activities for the safety improvements to State Road SR 5/US-1 from SW 37 Avenue to Ponce de Leon Boulevard, a six-lane divided urban arterial. The objective of the Project was to increase driver and pedestrian safety along US-1 due to high crash locations between SW 37th Avenue and Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The Project consists of roadway widening, realignment, utility relocations, permitting, public involvement, traffic control, drainage, lighting, pedestrian facilities and ADA ramps, landscaping, sound barrier wall, and replacement of the substructure of the existing pedestrian bridge structure over US-1 at Douglas Road. This Project also required proactive coordination with various utility owners, permitting agencies, the City of Coral Gables, Miami-Dade Transit, and other Miami-Dade County offices, including Public Works, Waste Management, Signs & Signals Division, and the affected School District.
