Project consisted of the design activities for the safety improvements to State Road (SR) 5/US 1 from SW 37 Avenue to Ponce de Leon Boulevard, a 6 lane divided urban arterial. The objective of the project is to increase driver and pedestrian safety along US-1 due to high crash locations between SW 37th Avenue and Ponce de Leon Blvd. The project consists of roadway widening, realignment, utility relocations, permitting, public involvement, traffic control, drainage, lighting, pedestrian facilities and ADA ramps, landscaping, sound barrier wall, and replacement of the substructure of the existing pedestrian bridge structure over US-1 at Douglas Rd. This project requires coordination with the City of Coral Gables, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT), other offices of Miami-Dade County (e.g. Public Works Waste Management, Signs/Signals Division, and affected School District), various utility owners and permitting authorities.
